Skiable snow at Mt. Shark

The snow was a bit thin but the scenery was outstanding

Watridge Lake Road

The weather was beautiful with a clear blue sky when we skied at Mt Shark on Monday. The trail had been snowmobile packed a few days ago and looks like it had been well-used over the weekend by both skiers and hikers.

There were a few exposed rocks and other natural hazards such as broken ice on a creek which you ski over, but I thought it was pretty decent for this time of year. The grip was good and the snow was fast. The scenery here is spectacular.

The 2K blue loop had just been groomed for skating. We were the first ones on the new corduroy. There were a few rough spots on that trail, especially in the trees where the snow was thin and the trail was rutted.

Read the comments on this post for an update on Hawkridge and Yoho.

  1. Hawkridge on the outskirts of Calgary reports they have 6K groomed for skating and 3K trackset. Hawkridge is just off 22X at 69 St SW. There is a trail fee of $5.00. Their snow phone is 403-256-4108.

  2. The Yoho trail report shows the Kicking Horse trail is now groomed and trackset. The trail from the Field information centre to the natural bridge is also ready. I’ve posted some archive photos http://www.bobtruman.com/Ski_Photos__Blog/page_2147016.html
