The recent warm and windy weather is starting to take its toll. Goat Creek was still in pretty good condition but there was wet snow on occasional stretches of the trail which made it difficult to get grip. If you put on sticky wax, you would pick up a lot of pine needles. My, but we have become particular! Earlier in the season, these would have been great conditions, so I shouldn’t complain too much. We were getting used to having almost perfect conditions.

Temperature at the trailhead was +6. The snow between Goat Creek trailhead and the widowmaker bridge was cold and fast. As soon as you crossed the bridge over Goat Creek, the snow was intermittently wet and dry. There were three exposed rocks on the steep hill down to the bridge over Goat Creek which is about the 7K point. The conditions are still good enough to snowplow down to the bridge, but I don’t know for how much longer. Click here to see more photos

How are the trails at West Bragg holding out in this warm weather? Anyone been there recently? If you’ve been out skiing anywhere, let us know how the conditions were.

  1. Thursday afternoon, very warm and sunny, did Crystal Line-Sundog loop: conditions surprisingly good, hard packed and fast with quite a few pine needles on the trail but still good fast conditions 🙂

  2. West Bragg: Mountain Road-Moose Connector-Crystal Line-Loggers-Crystal Line, January 14.
Warm temperatures of plus 1 at 4 pm, and only a skiff of wet new snow for my afterwork ski. Good springlike skiing on red wax in mostly glazed tracks, or soft damp snow. Downhills not too icy, yet. Grooming and tracksets still in fine shape, hopefully the great base will survive the upcoming heatwave.

  3. Bragg Creek, more specifically Iron Springs-Sundog-Elbow Trail, was great on Sunday. Good snow coverage, but the exposed areas on Iron Springs are starting to melt. The strech of trail from Allen Bill Pond to Fullerton Loop was a gong show, full of walkers, snowshoers, and dogs. That was a dissapointment because I like starting this loop from the south end. Oh well, the rest of the ski was fantastic 🙂

  4. Looks wonderful, wish I was there, and not in drizzly, dark England..
