How’s this for Oct 9?

Hi Bob,

I checked out the snow conditions at the Ribbon Creek trails today. There was about 15cm at the elevation of the Nakiska day lodge (1500m elevation). At 1900m elevation, there was 25cm of snow depth and at 2100m elevation, the snow was 40cm deep.

The Skogan Pass trail is generally smooth, but there are some rocks on the thinner, steeper, south-facing bits. In any case, the touring was great for October… as long as you have some old skis and you’re willing to risk the odd rock.

The snow guns are going full blast at the Canmore Nordic Centre. If the temperature stays cold, which it’s forecast to do, we might have something to ski on soon. I wasn’t in Canmore,  so thanks to Cheryl for the photos. See more photos

  1. george and I managed to ski the first 4k of pocaterra today oct 10th. some serious rocks, but only one endo. bear tracks in the snow most of the way, larger than my gloved hand, not sure if that equates to a big bruin or not. great to be on snow again, even if marginal!
