Subject: It Ain’t Over Yet!

“Hi Bob, just wanted to let folks know that we skied the Fairview Loop at Lake Louise today (i.e. Upper Tramline, Fairview Trail, Lower Moraine Lake Road) – all single track set on April 9 after the new snow and tracks in good shape!  Swix Purple worked just fine, temperature approx. zero when we left around 1.30 pm.  Some icy/glazed sections of track that must have been in the sun yesterday, and occasional excessive traction provided by pine needles etc. but otherwise good (especially for April!) for classic, but would not be good for skating, even on the MLR section (too soft/deep/lumpy).  If it doesn’t snow again, it should hold up for a few more days given the cool temps forecast.”

  1. Hi Bob: Skied from Elk Pass Parking to Elk Pass on a gorgeous,sunny,15 deg.C Saturday afternoon.(April 17) Encountered very good spring snow conditions, soft but not slushy or icy.The recent snowfalls had consolidated leaving a soft base to ski on.Used Swix hard klisterwax which gave a very good grip but was a little slow on the dowhills. The base is still in good condition and should last for quite a few more days. Returned on the Fox Creek Trail which was not in as good shape with sections with a lot of tree debris and icy patches and a couple of bare patches. In closing I would like to take this opprotunity to thank you for your very informative and oftimes entertaining blogs.See you next year; Tom

Hi Tom, and thanks for the update. I wish I wasn’t working today. -Bob
