Friday night update

I just had to use that title one last time. There’s been lots of new grooming in PLPP and it’s possible we’ll see more by tomorrow. The colder temperatures might allow us to use wax this weekend.

It was almost five months ago on Nov 18 when I posted Ski Season is on! It’s turned out to be an incredible winter for XC skiing. Five solid months. In early November, we had no snow at all, but we received instant winter in mid-November. Interest is waning, but we”re still getting 400-500 views per day on this blog.

We don’t get much material from the back country, so I’m happy to see the photos and reports from Chuck. Here’s another one(he and Jeannette have broken trail for anyone venturing out this weekend) :

Hey Bob,

Amazing conditions for cross-country skiing up Chickadee Valley today (even though we had to break trail). From the parking lot at the Great Divide on Highway 93 south, one can tour up the valley for some 5 km before avalanche slopes on the north side need to be avoided.

Just follow the creek up into wide open meadows with spectacular views all around. The frozen waterfalls at the headwall is beautiful.

  1. Spectacular pictures – now I want to go there!!

Glorious snow in PLPP today! (I’m not so good at pictures :S )
The Packers – Pocaterra – Whiskey Jack loop had been groomed last night, so was somewhat popular today, among the truly committed “crowd”, i.e. not so crowded. There was several inches of fresh snow on top of the grooming, and it kept on snowing. Fantastic! A little sticky, but not too bad, and a lovely tour in wonderful conditions for this time of year. A group parked beside us in the Boulton Parking lot did the loop in the opposite direction. We met them about halfway around, then again as we were approaching the parking lot – they had so much fun the first time they decided to go around again!!
What a pity the National Parks stopped grooming several weeks ago – this is the best spring skiing ever 🙂
