Frozen thunder is looking fabulous for tomorrow’s opening, and the Canmore Nordic Centre deserves a lot of credit for making this happen. My GPS said a total of 1.9K, which is shorter than expected, but twice as long as last year and a lot more interesting. It still has the optional big hill, but this year, you can do a loop without interfering with the skiers screaming down the hill.
The design of the course will allow some variety, too. You can ski three different loop configurations, and on two of those, you’d have the option to include the big hill.
They were still dumping snow this morning, so it’s possible there may yet be more. The elevation difference from the lowest point to the highest point is 35 metres.
The snow was very cold this morning at 10:30 a.m. Hard wax would probably work for the classic skiers, at least early in the day. By afternoon, you may need waxless skis or klister for classic skiing. It’s going down to -6 tonight, so the groomers should be able to do a good job of setting track.
In the past 24 hours, visitors have logged in from 67 different cities from around the world. I noticed a lot of hits coming from Minnesota and Wisconsin. How did you folks discover this blog? Someone must have posted a link somewhere. I have been in Minnesota(in the summer only) and I love that state. My great-grandparents(originally from Sweden) lived and worked near Duluth, in a town called Alborn.
Welcome to all visitors!
