Canmore Nordic Centre

I had an hour to ski late this afternoon at the nordic centre. The Banff Trail loop on man-made snow is now open and is in great condition. When you reach the natural snow, it’s better than I expected considering the rain last weekend. The snow cover on Banff Trail is thin in some places, with a bit of debris and twigs, but there are good tracks. Had no trouble getting grip with Swix VR45.

Took Meadowview back and descended on Olympic. They’re still making snow on the competition trails.

The Kananaskis trail report indicates that a lot of tracksetting was completed in PLPP yesterday. The trails around Kananaskis Village(Terrace, Kovach, and Aspen) were also trackset.

Unfortunately there is no snow in the forecast.

Goat Creek

Chuck skied Goat Creek today!!! Banff National Park was true to their word and completed the bridge repair on time. The trail is snowmobile packed. Chuck, if you’re reading, we’d be interested in hearing how the snow was. I stopped at the Spray River trailhead yesterday and talked to a couple skiers who said the snow cover was very thin with a layer of ice underneath. I’d like to hear your impressions.

  1. Windstorm this morning meant a ton of pine needles on the tracks at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Switched over to skating and the skis slid ok!

  2. Check out the Trip Reports page for December for the real “Nitty Gritty” on the new Spray River Bridge down the Goat Creek trail!
