Countdown to ski season

The days are getting noticeably shorter, the nights are considerably cooler, and we’ve even had some snow at higher elevations.

We’ll get our first taste of skiable snow in mid-October when the Canmore Nordic Centre gets things started with the phenomenal Frozen Thunder. Soon after, we’ll all be crossing our fingers and waxing skis in anticipation of the first tracksetting on Moraine Lake Road.

Elk Pass, Cascade Valley, Redearth Creek, Goat Creek(followed by a dip in the hot springs), Ribbon Creek, and hopefully, West Bragg Creek will all come on line soon after. I can hardly contain my excitement.

Right now, I’m busy contacting blog advertisers for the coming season. As most of you know, my winter job(and my ultimate dream job) consists of skiing and blogging. With an average of 2377 page views per day last winter, I’m pleased to see that many businesses are realizing the value of having a presence on this blog. If you are a potential advertiser, check this page skierbob.ca/advertising/.

We already have one fantastic contest lined up where you can win a wonderful prize of two nights accommodation at Emerald Lake Lodge. We had a bit of a scare earlier this spring when Parks Canada decided to discontinue grooming in Yoho. Thanks to some co-operation among interested parties, there will indeed be grooming at Emerald Lake. If you missed the story, you can read more here Great News! skiing at Emerald Lake this winter.

I’m confident we’ll get in some more good hikes yet, in fact, this is my favourite time of year for hiking. It’s not so hot, the mosquitoes are gone, and I’m extremely happy, dreaming about ski season being just around the corner.

I’m anxious to get back on the trails and meet my readers, and I’m looking forward to all the helpful comments which you provide.
