More snow on Moraine Lake road

There’s about 8 cm of new snow on MLR since it was last packed. Snow was still falling when I hit the trail at 11 a.m. this morning, and it was the heavy, moist variety that makes it difficult to wax. The good news is that it was snowing!

Every skier I talked to was trying something different. As I was walking to the trailhead, Ian had just finished skiing and reported good results with VR50 covered by Rode multi-grade. I met Yvon about 6k up the trail. He said that Vauhti carrot(-1/-6) was performing well for him.

It was one of those days, though, where nothing worked perfectly. You had to try and find wax which would give adequate grip without icing. I made a good guess by using Toko yellow(-2 and warmer). I slipped the odd time, but I didn’t have any significant icing problems.

The temperature was -2 when I started skiing but had warmed up to +1 by the time I finished at 1:30. With the challenging conditions, it took me 91 minutes, about 15 minutes longer than usual to reach the end of the grooming at 9k. The return trip was fast and fun as usual, however, as there isn’t a lot of climbing on the way back. It only took 33 minutes to descend.
