Natalie was enjoying the terrific conditions

Easy to tell it was a holiday for most people when I saw the overflowing parking lots at Lake Louise today. I worked as usual, hitting the trail at Moraine Lake road at 2:30 pm. Excellent tracks, about 3 cm of fresh snow since it was trackset, but with the warmer temperatures(-4) the snow was faster than it has been for a while.

It was a fast trip, making it to the end and back in 93 minutes. I then made a right turn and took good tracks on Tramline down to the train station and on to the Bow River and Campground trails. Tessa the Springer spaniel enjoyed these trails with me. I can confirm that Brent’s trip report was 100% accurate. Pretty good overall for this early in the season.

Thanks for all the comments over the weekend. I hope everyone read Rhonda’s glowing description of the Great Divide(…I was in heaven today skate skiing the Great Divide to the border and back.)

It looks like the snow will stay cold in Lake Louise, but too bad about the warm weather moving in to Calgary. It was snowing lightly on Moraine Lake road once you were on top of the hill. The temperatures should be cold enough at night for the nordic centre to continue making snow, so maybe we’ll see more trails open in Canmore soon.
