Shaganappi and West Bragg are skiable

Liz on the Shaganappi golf course with Calgary behind her!

Just in time for the Boxing day turkey trot. The above photo is Mark Sweatman’s entry in the Emerald Lake contest, but it was perfect for this posting.

Shaganappi update from Alasdair Fergusson of the Calgary Ski Club:

Some thin snow and very cold snow prevented a proper set of tracks being set,
So rather than mess up the packed trail our Tracksetter Larry lifted the track setter and left the trails surfaced by snow-comb.

If the snow is too cold and dry to make a snowball – it is too cold and dry to mould the snow to set tracks.

15 cars in parking lot at 3:15 pm Sunday despite the cold.
Everyone said they were having fun in good snow despite the cold.

Pray for more snow folks! Another 10 – 15 Cm would be great.

West Bragg Creek update from Thorsten:

Some trails were trackset yesterday. Conditions are fair to good with some twigs showing through in spots and a few areas with exposed sand. No real hazards that couldn’t be avoided though. Great alternative to the mall for Boxing Day.

I’ll have a Canmore Nordic Centre update later.

  1. Hi there.
I’m wondering if there are any ski trail’s (classical or skate) that allow dogs off leash (or even on)? I’m a new dog owner, and my dream has always been to ski with a dog, potentially training them to pull a sled for any over-night trips.

  2. Thanks for all the good news.
I hope one day I have a chance to ski up there
Wish you all un Joyeux Noel and a Happy new year.
Just to share with you…leaving tomorrow for Africa climbing the Kilimandjaro.

Thanks, Claudette. I’m climbing the big hill on Cascade valley! -Bob
