Ribbon creek trail: Now only a memory

 – Ribbon creek trail has been obliterated –

When I heard there was 400 mm of rain in Marmot creek, I didn’t hold out much hope for Ribbon creek, but I wasn’t prepared for this.

The creek has created a new channel and now flows almost exactly where the trail used to be.

  1. Like many of you, I loved this ski as well but perhaps its time to venture “up the creek” on the back-country boards like many once did …& perhaps the valley will enjoy solitude once again.

  2. I see Alberta Parks has created a volunteer list, I’ve just added my name. Thanks Bob!

  3. Unbelievable before and after pictures !

So sad to see it go like this…Wondering if Parks Canada still has plans to recreate this trail and others (assuming they can get Volunteer help) in time for the winter or next?

Ribbon creek is under the jurisdiction of the provincial government, but I get your point. After seeing the devastation, I don’t feel optimistic about ever skiing there again. I hope I’m wrong. -Bob

  5. Sure appreciate all the effort and posts to help find hikes after the flood

  6. Wow! This is bad. This is/was one of my favorite trails.

  7. I guess nature always wins!

  8. Ribbon Creek was my first ski outing last year, the changes are almost unbelievable.

  9. I’m speechless! That’s really heartbreaking. Many a good day spent in that area with family and friends. K-country is definitely starting over from scratch now…
