Snow guns are operating

The cold temperatures are enabling the snowmaking to operate full-force at the Canmore Nordic Centre. After receiving about 10 – 12 cm of snow at my house yesterday, I was surprised to see only a skiff of new natural snow on the ground surrounding Frozen Thunder today.

Angelica is in Canmore to train as she attempts to make it to the Olympics for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Conditions continue to be amazing, however, for both skating and classic skiing. You could even use wax today, although it had to be something fairly sticky.

The air temperature was -5°C at 1:30 pm and the snow was -4. One of the things I’ve noticed this year is how much cleaner the snow is. After a week of warm weather, the snow in past years was very tired-looking with lots of sawdust and dirt. Not this year.

  1. I love photo #8. It’s not only a great action shot, but it gives a nice view back at the facility.
