Volunteers needed for Fox creek- cancelled

Update Oct 15: This trail care day has been cancelled.
“We had great plans to help Parks on October 17th build some gabions on the Fox Creek Trail in PLPP. But winter arrived too fast for us, and now the ground is frozen and alas, wall construction cannot proceed. Our workday is therefore cancelled.”

We are in need of volunteers on Thursday, Oct 17 to assist with building gabion walls on the Fox Creek Trail. The work involves gathering rocks and placing them in metal mesh cages in order to protect a bridge crossing on the Fox Creek trail, an important section of the route to Elk Pass. The work requires a lot of bending so best suited to people with strong backs. You will be working in or near the creek so volunteers must not mind if they get wet.

To volunteer for this project, please email: trails@kananaskis.org
Help us to manage the many volunteer requests that we are processing by putting in the “subject line” of your email Fox Creek, Oct.17.  Details with regard to meeting time and place will be emailed to you in a confirmation letter.

  1. CANCELLED- ground to frozen to move rocks and earth. Hopefully spring runoff doesn’t wash the bridge away!

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve updated the post with the latest info. -Bob

  2. Caution for anyone with back issues. Gum boots, rubber based gloves are very handy, still call them gum boots? Rubber boots I guess. Beautiful spot to work in.

  3. It’s very important that Fox creek gets fixed as it’s very important as a connector in the trail system. It’s unlikely that Pocaterra will be a ski trail again anytime soon which makes getting Fox creek finished a priority. After seeing the damaged caused by the floods in Peter Lougheed and putting in a number of volunteer days myself I understand its importance more clearly now. Things will never be like they were on trails like Elk pass, Pocaterra, Whiskeyjack and some of the trails in Peter Lougheed may never open again because of the flood damage. If anyone has time to help out please volunteer so we’ll have some trails to look forward to skiing on this winter! I’ll be there!
