The Emerald Lake horse trail and alluvial fan is a spectacular ski trail

Last winter, Parks Canada discontinued their tracksetting efforts in Yoho and Emerald Lake. You can refresh your memory by reading this page which I created to help the Kicking Horse Ski Club raise funds: we’re-lucky-to-have-skiing-at-emerald-lake-this-winter/.

The fundraising drive was very successful and the KHSC has purchased their own snowmobile and tracksetting equipment. Thank you to everyone who bought a membership and/or donated money. The KHSC maintained a list of members and donors on their website, which I see has been reset to zero.  KHSC members

I was proud and pleased to be at the top of the list last year, being the first to purchase my $40 membership. There is a further incentive to being a KHSC member, and that’s the incredible special which Emerald lake Lodge provides to ski club members. I’ve just posted their ad on the sidebar, but you can also access it here Emerald Lake Lodge $99. The lodge opens for the winter on Dec 4, right about the time when there’s enough snow for skiing.

Any ski club qualifies, but if you aren’t already a member of a club, consider getting it from KHSC as it will help ensure that we have groomed trails in Yoho and Emerald Lake, one of the most beautiful places on earth to ski.

Frozen Thunder Update

The trucks continued hauling snow onto the ski trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre today. Here are a few photos of Pisten-Bully driver Paul as he was smoothing out the piles of snow, preparing for the final grooming on Friday night.

  1. I mailed in my cheque Sept 30th so perhaps I will be the first to sign up this winter???? So great to have the wonderful Emerald Lake Lodge available to us again, and especially this year since they predict lots of snow. Can’t wait to try out their new tracksetter.

Thanks for getting the (snow)ball rolling Helen! -Bob
