Banff loop is open at CNC

A couple of new developments at the Canmore Nordic Centre: The entire Banff loop on the man-made snow is now open. The photo above shows the upper part of the loop which, a few days ago, was entirely covered with large mounds of snow waiting to be groomed.

The skating rink is also open. It’s located at the south end of the stadium area and very near to the daylodge.

Snow temperature at 5 pm on Tuesday was -13°C and air temp was -14. Being dark, I only skied in the lighted areas and you couldn’t ask for better conditions. I was still using the wax from yesterday, Swix VR30(-10 and colder) and had all the grip I needed.

Milder weather is on the way with a forecast high of -5°C for Canmore today.

Tomorrow it’s even warmer and would be a good day to get out to the CNC and cheer on the skiers in the Para-Nordic World Cup. View some great photos from yesterday’s action Paralympic athletes compete in sprints at CNC. The distance races go on Thursday. Here’s the Schedule of events.

The Para-Nordic races at the nordic centre are having a minimal impact on the recreational trails. As always, you can see any closures on the Canmore Nordic Centre page.

Like me, you have probably been wondering why we haven’t seen any recent grooming at Mt Shark(or PLPP for that matter). Reason being, the Pisten-Bully had a mechanical failure and was in for repairs.
