I don’t have a Trip Report to go along with this photo, so if anyone was skiing there today, please leave a comment.

Jeff entered this beautiful photo in the Emerald Lake Lodge Contest. If you haven’t clicked over to that page, you’re missing out on some terrific pictures taken by this blog’s readers.

I see that Mt Shark was groomed yesterday, so it makes me speculate the snowcat is back up and running. Did anyone see new grooming/tracksetting in PLPP?

  1. I thought there was a post on this last year, but can anyone point me to the directions of where you actually park to start skiing at Confederation? I understand the lights are along 14th Street/24th Avenue, but is that where skiers start? I thought I’ve heard people say to start at the ‘other end’, but not sure where that is. Would love to head up there to ski it in the evening. Does one need a headlamp, or is ambient light usually enough? Also, are there people out there after dark at this time of year (in areas other than where the Christmas lights display is?)/ Thanks in advance!

    • Hi,

The entrance is at 19th Street and Collingwood Drive
You park on Collingwood and go through the chained gate (there is just enough room for people to squeeze through)
You can ski a loop in the driving range, but most of the track setting is on the other side of the fence along the fairways. If you are going to go after 5pm, bring a headlamp. I couldn’t find mine when I went a few days ago (24th) and it was only OK, because I know where the tracks are. You are likely to see other people out there skiing. 🙂

      • Thank you for this info! I think I know the gate you’re talking about, think I was there in a winter past, but thought that that meant it’s closed. Good to know that one can just squeeze through, so I’ll be sure to give that a go over the next few days.

  2. Yesterday 24th, another grand day on Confederation, tracks still intact, no crowds and yes plenty of dogs including one young fast skier lady with a big hound. A short layer of Diabloc Toko Blue klister (-4 – 1) topped with Toko red hard wax worked just fine. Just under the kick area VERY thin, let klister cool outside before mixing in the hard wax.

  3. Skied at Confed this afternoon – conditions were excellent – it was great to see lots of people out on the shortest day of the year.

  4. My comment will be the same as the sign at the entrance to the golf course, NO DOGS, as per the bylaw.
