Canmore Nordic Centre update re: Olympic trials

Jan 6 – 12 Nor/Am Olympic trials

ClimbThe XC Stadium and XC competition trails, (Olympic and Centennial) will be closed to recreational skiers from January 6-12 for the XC NorAm/Olympic Trials. All of the popular recreational trails, including Banff/Banff Loop, Bow and most of Meadowview will be free and clear for recreational use.

Meadowview will be closed for the short section between Junction 43 and 46 so skiers don’t end up in the Centennial/Olympic area. Detour signage will be placed on the trail at Junction 43 directing skiers to follow Meadowview through the mine meadow, and return to Daylodge via the Banff Trail.

The public wax room will remain in its usual location at wax room #1.

If you’re interested in watching the skiers compete for a spot on the Olympic team, the races go from Wed – Sun this week. Read more here.

The cookie race

On the subject of racing, it’s time to start thinking about which loppets you’ll be participating in this winter. We’ve already had a heated discussion over the entry fees of the Cookie race. Check the Loppet page for a list of the fun races in the area. The Lake Louise to Banff loppet is full, and I see Nipika already has a number of Participants.

World Snow Day

It’s on Sunday, January 19. The CNC will be offering free skiing for children (6 – 11 years) and juniors (12 – 17 years).  Trail Sports will be offering free rentals for those 11 years and below on cross country skis and skates.

Our skating rink and toboggan hill are currently open for the
season. As usual, there is no charge for these two activities!

The Banff trail report indicates that Goat creek was trackset yesterday. It is only trackset for 7K to the Goat creek bridge.
