I watched my next-door neighbour win the men’s sprint at the Canmore Nordic Centre today. It should almost ensure that Jesse Cockney will be on Canada’s Olympic team.
Congratulations to Jesse Cockney and Heidi Widmer on their wins today and will hopefully be named to Canada’s Olympic team
Phil Widmer of Banff was second followed by another neighbour, Patrick Stewart-Jones. Patrick gets in shape by shoveling my driveway. Congratulations, guys! Congrats to Heidi Widmer who won the women’s race.

The recreational trails are open at the CNC and were very busy today.
Speaking of shoveling, it’s 4 pm and the snowfall warning has ended. We’ve had about 6-8 cm of new snow in Canmore today. Occasionally the wind gusts quite violently and blows it around. No rain, and the temperature did not reach the predicted high of +7. It’s +1 right now.
The weather was co-operating during the racing but around noon the snow started coming down in bucket-fulls. It only lasted about a half-hour and presently I see blue skies.
The CNC daylodge was packed
There’s one more day of Olympic qualifying racing at the nordic centre with the men’s 30K and women’s 15K tomorrow(Sunday). The recreational trails are all open with access at the end of the daylodge where the flags are, or down by the biathlon area.
I can’t wait to hear about today’s ski trips. From the sound of Darcy’s experience, it was a challenging wax day.
Chateau Lake Louise twittered that they’ve received 25 cm of snow in the past 24 hours.
Comments not showing up right away
The troll is back. You may have occasionally seen a few of his comments which slipped through(under the name “Shirley”). I’ve fine-tuned the words which are used to hold comments in the moderation que, and it holds some of the good comments as well. Bear with me. There’s a whole other story associated with this cowardly jerk which I will share with you some day. I’m presently in the process of suing him for defamation.
