We need this snow

Overnight snowfall in Canmore is about 6 cm and it’s still coming down, heavy enough that I can’t see across the valley. Environment Canada has a Snowfall Warning in effect for Kananaskis, Banff and Canmore. According to the forecast, we’ll be receiving a lot more in the next 24 hours:

Tonight, 3 January
Snow at times heavy. Amount 10 cm. Low minus 16.

Saturday, 4 January
Snow ending late in the morning then cloudy with 30 percent chance of flurries. Clearing late in the evening. Amount 2 cm. High minus 12.

The Live Grooming Report for PLPP indicates that Tyrwhitt, Lookout, Hydroline and Elk pass were groomed this morning. I expect it will be snowing there today. Update: See Jody’s Groomer’s Report. 30 cm at Elk pass, but better yet, Pocaterra’s getting a dump as well.

Canadian Alex Harvey had another podium finish at the Tour de Ski today. He’s in 3rd place in the overall standings.

I’ve updated the Canmore Nordic Centre page with info about upcoming events and closures. All the popular recreational trails will be open this weekend.
