Busy day at PLPP

There were a lot of skiers enjoying the trails in PLPP today. The Pocaterra parking lot looked jam-packed when I passed it on my way to Elkwood.

The temperature at Elkwood Amphitheatre was -3°C at 12:15 pm. I didn’t take a snow temperature but Swix VR45(-2/-8) worked reasonably well. It started slipping later in the day. While climbing Whiskey jack, I had to step into the middle a few times where the loose snow gave better traction.

There was 3 cm of fresh snow over the recent grooming and about 10 cm in the older grooming. All tracks were well skied-in but still pretty soft. I didn’t have the usual fast speed on my way down Pocaterra. There were some occasional strong wind gusts with the consequent pine needles being deposited on the trail.

People were mingling at every intersection and picnic table. I ran into prolific Trip Reporter Steve Riggs at the Amos/Wheeler junction and had a nice chat. Steve has been a mainstay on this blog since its inception. A group of five blog readers were enjoying the sun as they had their lunch at one of the Wheeler picnic tables. All in all a great day with good snow and nice weather.

The weather seemed to be getting blustery later in the day. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more cm of snow on the trails tomorrow.

The Banff trail report indicates that Brewster creek has been trackset.
