PLPP Grizzly bear sighting

Here are some great photos and details of Sheila’s recent bear encounter:

Hi Bob,

We stayed out at William Watson lodge this weekend.  There were warning signs about bears in the area and we were careful to make lots of noise and keep the pooch on lead.

We saw nothing but lots of bear scat, even close to our cabin but did not see any bears until we headed out to the Boulton Creek Trading Post.  These bears were on the side of the road – you can see the lip of the road in some of the photos.

The dark one only looked up once as they were intent on some good grub they found.  We did not linger too long so as not to disturb them but our first view of grizzly bears was a delight and glad we were in the confines of a vehicle.

    • That is very sad news 🙁
Too many people drive too fast. It really irks me that so many Calgarians see Kootenay Park as an obstacle to get through as quickly as possible.

      • It’s heartbreaking. If it’s not bad/distracted driving, it is people wandering about where they shouldn’t be and forcing a situation for the bear. Why don’t we ever get it? There are accidents, but if you’re paying attention & not speeding your chances of hitting anything are slight. And I still drive through & see people park their cars on the side of the road with their kids out to see the bears foraging. With all the warnings & media out there, but no common sense to be seen.
