-It’s looking a little more like winter on Frozen Thunder at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Olympian Dasha Gaiazova is doing her first laps as a retired racer.-
We only received about 4 cm of new snow in Canmore, but it was enough to freshen up the snow conditions on Frozen Thunder. After going 10 days without seeing it, I was pleasantly surprised at how much snow remains.

These skiers from Barrie, ON, are among the many who have come from elsewhere to ski on Frozen thunder
I was out there at 8:20 a.m. and already a lot of skiers were doing laps, including Olympian Dasha Gaiazova and a host of skiers from Ontario. I’m still getting reasonably good grip with my zero skis. The snow was a bit on the icy side but that will soften up as the day warms up.
This morning it was -1ºC and the sky was overcast, but as I write this at 11:00 a.m., I see the sun is just starting to show its face.
Kananaskis Public Safety reports on Facebook: “Weather stations are reporting 25cm of new snow at Highwood pass over the past 24hrs from this latest upslope storm. Lots of people out skiing but remember, its a looooonnnnnggg season and a small fall at this time of year can be season ending and youll be wondering why you skiied in Nov when the skiing is really good in April!!!”
