The ski race at Lake Louise

The NorAm Western Canadian Championships are on at the Canmore Nordic Centre this weekend. Please note the following closures:

The cross country stadium and cross country competition trails will be closed to the public from 9am-3pm daily this weekend. During this time, you will need to access and return from Meadowview and Rundle via the Mine Meadow. It is recommended to head down from Junction 43 on Meadowview and Rundle, and at Junction 57 on Coyote, to avoid the race course.  Expect parking congestion. Waxroom #1 is now the waxroom available to the public.

Racers on Moraine Lake road. Take note that one side of the trail was still open to recreational skiers.

The results from yesterday’s NorAm at Lake Louise are posted on Zone 4. Kevin Sandau won the day by skiing the 10K course in just over 26 minutes.

The meltdown which was forecast has had minimal impact so far in the mountains. I’m not sure about West Bragg Creek. I hope someone will ski there today and leave a report.

The Ribbon creek / Kananaskis Village snowcat is back in Kananaskis so I expect we’ll see some new grooming on those trails today.

Sundance Lodge2All the trails at Mt Shark were groomed and trackset last night. That would be an excellent choice for skaters and dog owners.

Are you aware that Sundance Lodge  in Banff National Park is now open for the season? After skiing up Brewster creek, you can stay overnight in a gorgeous location with the massive Sundance range as a backdrop and experience excellent hospitality. Starting at the Cave and Basin, it’s about 13K on trackset trails to the lodge.
