Sunday morning update

For those who can’t access it, the temperature on the PLPP webcam says -19, which probably means -23. My thermometer in Canmore says -23. I don’t see any movement from the towering spruce trees around here, so hopefully the wind has died down. As I write this at 8:50 a.m., the Nordic Centre Weather Station shows a wind speed of only 2 Kmh at the daylodge. My back yard snow guage indicates 5 cm of snow in Canmore since this latest storm started on Friday night.

All the trails on the west side of the road in PLPP were groomed last night along with Rolly road. Lots of grooming occurred at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The new snow should have been a big benefit to the natural snow trails. Check the Live Grooming Report for details.

One of the downsides to having the experienced, expert groomers and tracksetters in Kananaskis is that they are always in demand for special projects. You may have inferred by now from Ken Hewitt’s comments that Ribbon creek tracksetter Jeff and his snowcat will be at Lake Louise for a few days to prepare trails for the race which I talked about on the previous post.

The snow we received should be enough for some new tracksetting to occur in Banff. Goat Creek/Spray River has been without any grooming for a month. Robo-skier Chuck O’Callaghan left a report on the Spray River yesterday, showing photos of fresh snow on the trail.

More snow is in the forecast for tonight, Monday and Tuesday which should finally bury and cover all the remnants of the meltdown and icy conditions of mid-December.

  1. Congratulation to Alex Harvey for the 2nd place in today Tour de Ski event 15k classic.

  2. This is what works for me on my PC:
    Start
    All Programs
    Java
    Configure Java
    Security

Then add: “http://199.213.60.57/popup.html” to the Exception Site List

  3. Does anyone know what the issue is with the PLPP webcam? I haven’t been able to access it for ages, have the OS on my computer all up to date, downloaded the latest Java, etc., and still just see that dark blue screen.

    • The webcam is back online, it must be your computer settings preventing you from accessing it. You should try another browser.

    • If you have the latest Java, try to clear your browser cache and try again.
Java changed slightly with v 7.51. I know that it affected my access to the PLPP web cam.
      Have a look at this:
      https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

    • I fought it too, finally got it to work. I can’t remember what I did! but I know I still use Chrome before and after. It was a security thing and the update. I think I had to copy and paste the web addy to the “it’s ok site” list. Then when the applet asked if it was okay to run I used drop-down option to say it’s OK now and forever. I trust my government not to spy on me wearing white socks with a suit.
