Apr 10 – New grooming on MLR

 Hi Bob,

The trails on Moraine Lake Road are freshly groomed mid day today April 10th. Attached is a picture.

Great that they’re out grooming. Tracks are likely to be a bit icy in the morning April 11th but could be different with the new snow in the forecast for tomorrow. Looks like the snow will be there for awhile yet!

I want to offer my belated congratulations to Ian for his excellent finish in this year’s Vasaloppet. Ian was 467th out of 12,618 skiers in the 90K race in Sweden. He finished in a time of 5:18:29 and was the top Canadian. Congratulations are also in order for winning the 51K Gatineau Loppet. It would be interesting to know which of those races was a bigger accomplishment.

    Tom Jones,
There is a well known issue with registration to Vasa and Marcialonga.
However, if one really wants to go to Vasa (without good FIS points) he or she just simply should go few days before the race to Moora and buy the bib closer to the start day.
I was told that many times by several people who has done that.
There is always someone selling the bib few days before the start.
And the organizing committee is very good or re-registering the bibs to a new name and seeding you according your recent qualifying results.
Unfortunately, such thing does not work for Marcialonga…

Regardless of having the bib or not, the accommodation for Vasa should be book almost a year in advance.

  2. Congrats to the boys in the Vasa and also for their great races in the Norwegian Birkie!! Too bad it’s such a gong show trying to enter the Vasa – I have tried for years and simply can’t get lucky enough to get in before the computer system is overloaded. This year the Vasa’s 16,800 start positions were filled in 83 seconds. It’s really a shame they can’t accommodate foreign racers who are willing to spend years of training and allot of $$ to get there.

  3. Although Ian had a great race Erik Carleton was top Canadian in 121st place in 4:51.

  4. Congratulations, Ian!!
