A regular contributor to this blog, Alf Skrastins, is determined to ski every month of the year. He’s accomplished that feat for 166 consecutive months, which is nearing 14 years.

Alf says “It’s been tough to find snow this summer, but not entirely impossible.”

  1. By chance, I had hiked to Rawson Lake on Sept.8, 2012. What a magical place. Alf, your sense of adventure always instills a sense of magic, as well as whimsy, into any trip! Just one mountain over from Rawson Lake, I recall slogging up to Aster Lake on a July 1 weekend, with you carrying your skies. You’ll have to tell us when you realized that you were going to go on a bit of a ‘roll’ with the monthly skiing.
I took a few photos back in 2012, and found one that gives a bit of a comparison as to the size of the snow pack that year compared to Alf’s recent trip. I hiked up to the bowl to the left of where Alf’s crew skied it this year.

I looked up the Sunshine Village base depth figures for both years. In March 2012 the base depth reached 262 cm, while this past March of 2015 it only reached 83 cm.

  2. I don’t think there is any snow in the Cayman Islands, Henry.
Yes Keith, I needed 4 runs to get over 1000′ vertical.

  3. Hello Alf – did you yoyo the slope to get 1000 ft vertical?

  4. Well done Alf!

So, no two month trips to the Cayman Islands in the works? -)
