Thursday morning update

Many families were skiing on the Great Divide

The Great Divide at Lake Louise should be a good choice for families this weekend

I just got off the phone with Paul Karchut from CBC’s Real Ski Report who was asking where I would recommend skiing for the family day weekend.

Thanks to everyone who has left a trip report, I was able to give a well-informed synopsis of the conditions.

My first choice would be Lake Louise based on the recent trip reports and the weather forecast which predicts temperatures at zero or colder. There’s also a good variety of trails for all abilities.

The south end of PLPP is another option but I don’t know how it’s faring in these warm temperatures. The south end trails are not exactly what I’d consider to be “family friendly,” however.

Mt Shark was groomed last night and should be in reasonably good shape. The road to get there is in spring-like driving condition.

Yoho and Emerald Lake trails seem to be surviving reasonably well with a few inconveniences such as tree bombs.

The good news is that significant snowfall is in the forecast for next week, with smaller amounts this weekend.
