Excellent on new grooming…and before 2 pm

-Nola and Geoff on Tyrwhitt. –

I was on the trail at 10:30 this morning and had lovely cold snow as I started up Whiskey Jack. I enjoyed 22K on excellent tracks and cold, clean snow. I skied a further 4K(after 2 pm) on wet snow, better known as armstrong skiing.

The air temperature at Boulton creek was -3°C and the snow was -5. I waxed with VR45(-2/-8) and had good grip for most of the day. Whiskey Jack had 5 cm of fresh snow over the recent grooming as did Pocaterra.

Upon reaching the Tyrwhitt – Lookout junction, I was thrilled to see the new tracksetting. I’m happy I had such perfect conditions on Tyrwhitt for what will probably be my last ski on this beautiful trail for this season.

New tracksetting also greeted me on Hydroline, Patterson, Elk Pass, and Blueberry Hill. Nearing the end of my ski, I didn’t have much grip on the sunny south side of the Elk pass hill so I walked up. The snow on Boulton Creek was also very wet. I didn’t want to add any sticky wax because the fresh snow on Boulton would have given me clumping problems.

The sun is a lot higher in the sky now, so it doesn’t take long for the snow to get wet. Most of the trails will be icy in the morning.

Where is this new bridge?

Where is this new bridge?

Easter Bridge Hunt

TSJ(Ribbon Creek tracksetter Jeff) sent me the photo at the right with the following note:

“Here is Tracksetter Alex under the new bridge we just built. At least we get a head start on summer if winter won’t cooperate.”

Jeff added, “The trail to it is almost done.” Does anyone know where the bridge is?

It’s a distant memory now, but we did have about two months of fabulous skiing on the Ribbon Creek – Bill Milne – Kananaskis Village trails early in the winter. I hope we get more than that next winter because I sure feel like something has been missing.

  1. Bridge hint #1.
One of the trails this bridge connects to has in its name something that people who read this blog would love to see more of.

  2. Wonderful ski Bob.

You had me hooked before asking us about the club.
I’m not a user of Google Translate, but I used it for Blodsmak SportsKlubb.
The literal translation sounds divinely vampirish. I like the blood sampling bag in their promo kit. Interesting that Blodsmak is also the name used by a folk band from Drammen.
I’m sure that our Norwegian visitors will now have bragging rights in Oslo at having met Skier Bob. I hope that no Scandinavian ski rivalry broke out to see which nationality was fastest to the parking lot -)

  3. It truly was an excellent day at Peter Lougheed today! Thanks for the tip, Bob. It was great to see you flying down the powerline hill just as I was heading up. Did Elk Pass, Tyrwhitt and Lookout. The thermometer at the top said +2 but the thermometer on my pack said +9. Either way, it was a great day for the skin skis on that long climb up but their tendency to grab on soft snow made for some scary moments on my way back down the north side where the new corduroy was icy in the shade but slushy in the sun. Almost face planted twice before I finally decided to walk for a bit! Powerline was nice and fast. Had a look at Fox Creek but it looked too icy so I took the big hill out. Hopefully all that fantastic new grooming will last for awhile longer!

  4. Couldn’t make it out to PLPP today.
What’s the prognosis for tomorrow there?
