The "three amigos" from Winnipeg

The “three amigos” from Winnipeg

(I was thrilled to get this email from Kevin. I remember the day well. It was cold and the snow and tracksetting were marvelous.)

Skier Bob:

We met on Sunday November 29 in the Ribbon Creek parking lot. I’m one of the “three amigos” from Downtown Nordic in Winnipeg. I’m the one with the mess of blond hair in your photo. http://skierbob.ca/2015/11/duluth-edmonton-now-winnipeg/

I’ve enjoyed reading your website every day since mid November. You are an exceptionally good writer – always very interesting and informative.

My wife & I rediscovered the Rockies (especially Kananaskis and Banff National Park) post-retirement in 2012 for both XC skiing and camping / hiking / biking. We had a decent skiing winter in Winnipeg / Manitoba, but your blog posts have often prompted me to wish I was again in Canmore. If we didn’t have kids and grandchildren here, and if the sale of our house wouldn’t only give us less than half a down payment in the Canmore area, …

I especially enjoy reading your statistical stuff. Like you, I’ve been logging everything in my life for many years. Congrats on 20,000 km of XC skiing as of March 13. My log says 19,397 km as of my last ski this year on March 18. My wife and I started skiing in 1978, but I only skied 110 km in 13 years until 1991 when we joined a club and enrolled our kids in Jackrabbits, and it wasn’t until 2000 that skiing became the major focus of my winter – 16,800 km since then.

We’re looking forward to two weeks in Kananaskis & Banff NP in July and another week next winter.

Best wishes and good luck for good health and happiness. I look forward to continued reading of your site. Thanks for doing it.

  1. Hey Bob and Kevin and anyone else at 20,000 km, you have skied half way around the earth! The circumference of earth is just over 40,000 km.
