Update Jan 1, 2017 @ 8:15 a.m: I’ve received 4-5 cm of snow in Canmore, and another 5 cm is forecast for today. This is great news for the natural snow trails at the nordic centre. I sure hope Ribbon Creek and West Bragg are getting this, too.

I remembered to add a Trip Reports – Jan 2017 to the menu, so I’ll be anxiously awaiting the first trip reports of 2017 tonight. I expect last night’s PLPP tracksetting will be buried in new snow.

It started snowing in Canmore around 10 pm. A snowfall warning is in effect for Canmore and Kananaskis.

I didn’t ski today, but we have 16 trip reports to read.

The PLPP Live Grooming Report shows that Whiskey Jack and Upper Pocaterra were trackset tonight. Packers was groomed.

Redearth Creek in Banff National Park was trackset today.

Pipestone trails in Lake Louise were trackset today.

  1. Happy New Year to you all, too!!

It is getting off to a great start, especially on the eastern slopes. West Bragg has at least 15 cm of new snow by now. 🙂

  2. Happy New Year to all. I will be out checking the trails around the Village today hopefully there is enough to get things going. For anyone stuck at home I watched a movie called The Last King last night on Netflix. This is the story that the Birkebeiner comes from. Ther are lots of great wooden xcountry ski chases that will leave you yearning for deep snow and crazy descents.

    • Happy new year to you, too, Jeff, and thanks for working on a holiday for the benefit of us skiers. I hope there’s enough snow to keep you in the Pisten-Bully for a few days. Ribbon Creek, Skogan Pass, Bill Milne are all on my to-do list for 2017! I look forward to your next report.

  3. At least 10 cm in Three Sisters. Maybe more.

  4. Nakiska’ website shows 11cm of new snow (probably high on the mountain). Probably a good sign for Kan. Village and Skogan.

  5. It’s looking like a great start to the new year for West Bragg! Weather stations at Elbow Ranger and Jumpingpound are reading 10 and 8 mm of precip overnight from this upslope flow, with radar showing continued light snowfall along the foothills. In my silver springs backyard I have 7 cm and it is still snowing.
