“We then broke trail through perhaps 15cm of fluffy fresh powder on Mountain View, until snowmobiles appeared coming towards us. They stopped, and cheerfully explained that there was too much snow for one machine to handle” -Diana

It looks cold and windy from my perch at SkiHere’s world headquarters in Canmore, and my driveway is full of snow, and I’m NOT complaining, but I’m looking for excuses to stay inside and delay the shoveling. Should be some terrific skiing in the coming week.

It was close, but Chuck’s report from Sundance Canyon/Healy Creek beat out Diana’s by a few minutes as the first Trip Report of 2017. Tracksetter Jeff’s Groomer’s Report from Kananaskis Village was first overall.

I’ve been waiting for someone to check out Healy Creek, so it’s nice to get that update. I see Chuck even sent in a photo of his truck parked at the Cave and Basin.

The Live Grooming Report shows the extreme south end of Terrace/Kovach being groomed for the first time this season. Those were the first trails I ever skied on almost 20 years ago(Feb 2017 will be the 20th anniversary of the start of my ski career).

With the cold weather in the forecast, the snow should stick around for a while.

I don’t know if the Banff tracksetter is working today, but I’m guessing the next trail on his agenda is going to be Spray River/Goat Creek. Although Banff didn’t get a lot of this snow, it should cover a few of those remaining rocks.

I’ve uploaded all the photo entries in the Emerald Lake Lodge contest. The cute pine marten was the final entry. I now have to make a list of all the names and make the draw within the next week.

I’d still do this blog without such praise, but I’m gratified to receive comments such as this one from Lori Wakley

Alternatively, (to keep me humble) this guy from Reddit isn’t too fond of me… 🙄 (Operating this blog is a full-time job, I don’t know where he got the idea I was retired)

  1. I skied on Moraine Lake road and the divide on the weekend and even though they had just been track set the trails weren’t up to the usual standards. They must have changed machines (shallow tracks were destroyed by just a few skiers). The snow was great but slow w the cooler temps. Need to change out glide wax. Seriously think about where I am skiing next outing (long drive and $$$ stay).
Hard to beat PLPP for a good day, if we can just work on the trailside skier cabins w/fireplaces!!!
