At least for this bout of cold temperatures we have snow! You might want to refer back to this Cold Weather Gear posting with 22 comments from readers for suggestions on preparing to ski in cold weather.

At 8:15 a.m. It’s -23°C at SkiHere in Canmore and I see the Canmore Nordic Centre’s #5 weather station is at -22.7. The warmest prediction I can find for today is Environment Canada’s -15 in Banff. (Update: At 9 a.m. it has dropped to -24)

The Kananaskis Village trails were trackset yesterday including the extreme south end of Terrace/Kovach so you can now do a complete loop without retracing any steps.

It was a terrific start to the year on this blog. We set a record for unique visits with 11,575. The best day we had last year was 6134(also on New Year’s day).

I’ve added AMA Road Reports to the Weather menu.

  1. Bob, it’s 29.5 below at the Elbow Ranger Station at the southern end of the West Bragg Creek trail system this morning. Ouch.

    • The Mud Lake weather station is showing -32.8 and going in the wrong direction. It was -29 at 5 a.m. (Mud Lake is near Chester Lake trailhead).

    • I remember a Christmas camping trip to the Baker Lake area, where one of the two stoves failed. Rice in tea never tasted so good. It was 33 below in Banff that night. Brrr.
