Snowfall updates

Sat Mar 4 @ 4:15 pm:

It’s unusual to get more snow than the forecasts predicted. For example, the Snow Forecast was predicting 3 cm for Ribbon Creek today, but they got around 30!!

Liz on Goat Creek:

“It had snowed so much that I could hardly see my ski tips”

Read more about Liz’s adventure on the trip reports.

Chuckley was skiing through 15 cm on Cascade Valley.

Sat Mar 4 @ 3:39 pm:

I have received 11 cm in Canmore with 7 of that coming in the past 3 hours. It’s still coming down, but tapering off.

The Banff trail report indicates Spray River east and west were trackset today. BarbBanff was skiing there and reports that Goat Creek was trackset as well.

One of our trip reporters was at Ribbon Creek today:

Will Ratliffe

Will left a trip report at the same time as I was posting this so make sure you read it. Glad you made it home safely, Will!

Sat Mar 4 @ 10:34 a.m:

Tawny: “We just pulled the plug on HWY 1 by Morley. TERRIBLE conditions. Lots of people spinning out and hitting the ditch. Be careful.”

Will: “heads up for people heading west from Calgary. Hwy 1 Scott lake to Hwy 40 is super icy… so icy antilock brakes not engaging”

Environment Canada has added Canmore and Kananaskis Village to Banff and Lake Louise as areas subject to the snowfall warning.

Snowfall, with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm continues.

Heavy snow is expected to end by this evening.

I have received 4 cm in Canmore. The sun is shining as I write this, but it looks like more clouds are moving in.

Check the webcams and AMA road reports before you head out onto the highways.

The Parks Canada trail report for Banff/Lake Louise indicates 20 cm of new snow in Lake Louise.
