-Skiers from the Edmonton Nordic Ski Club were enjoying the conditions on Frozen Thunder-
Frozen Thunder is holding up extremely well considering the warm weather. I checked it mid-afternoon and observed a lot of happy skiers including those pictured above from the Edmonton Nordic Ski Club.
There was a reasonably well-defined classic track which would have been even better earlier in the day. In the parking lot, I noticed a lot of licence plates from Saskatchewan and BC.
Here’s an article about Frozen Thunder in Faster Skier Longer, Stronger Frozen Thunder Open in Canmore.
Ski sales this weekend
The Lifesport Ski Swap is on right now and will continue for the remainder of the weekend. The Canmore Nordic Ski Club’s Sale is on Sunday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Consignments are being taken tomorrow (Saturday) between 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
Norseman Outdoor has their ski gear on display. I saw this notice on Twitter a few minutes ago:
Weather looks promising
The temperatures turn colder and there’s snow in the forecast starting on Tuesday night.
The Weather Network is showing 14-28 cm for Lake Louise from Tuesday – Friday.
There’s even more snow in the forecast for West Bragg Creek, in the neighbourhood of 20 – 40 cm.
If you missed this Facebook update, Anna Elkins updated the status of Moraine Lake Road on Oct 26:
“I skied it on Tuesday and it was melting out fast. There is going to be a hazardous tree assessment on the road this week as well so likely more vehicles driving the road.”
Been seeing lots of blowdown on my jaunts as of late. Might delay some grooming in Kananaskis.
Lots of trees across the West Bragg Creek trails also. Volunteers know about the situation so they will be gone when we get skiing. More a concern to the mountain bikers for a while.
