Ski season is still a few weeks away(notwithstanding Chuck’s ski trip of Sep 22), but ski blogging season officially starts today, so welcome back!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. If you’ve been reading this blog over the summer, you’ll see that I’ve put my old mountain bike to good use.
It appears that skiers could enjoy some early-season skiing by going to Medicine Hat and Cypress Hills where there’s a storm warning in effect and 30 cm of snow in the forecast for tomorrow(Oct 2).
Frozen Thunder at the Canmore Nordic Centre opens on Saturday Oct 21, and with any luck, we’ll be skiing on Moraine Lake road at Lake Louise in early November.
CNC Passes 10% off
Individual season passes to the Canmore Nordic Centre are 10% off until the end of October. The season pass is not valid for Frozen Thunder.
Ski Sales
- Canmore Nordic Ski Club’s Ski Swap always has an excellent selection of good quality gear on sale. It’s a half-day affair on Oct 29. Frozen Thunder will be open for skiing by then. Photo from last year’s sale.
- Lifesport’s Ski Swap will be a three-day event from Oct 27 – 29 in Calgary. You can consign anytime up ’til Oct 24. Here’s a photo from last year showing a huge selection of gear.
- The Calgary New and Used Ski Sale at Max Bell arena occurs Oct 20 – 22.
September and October are the months where I make arrangements with businesses regarding advertising on this blog for the winter. I’m lining up some fun contests where you can win great prizes.
I’m pleased to say we have Emerald Lake Lodge back for the sixth consecutive winter with their xc skier’s special rate.
In the month of December we’ll be giving away two free nights at Emerald Lake Lodge.
From Nov 1 to March 31, this blog averages 6,634 visits per day. If you know of a business or organization who wants to reach the xc skiing community, send them to my advertising page, or directly to me bobtruman@shaw.ca
One didn’t have to travel to the hat for snow as their was plenty -about 4′, that blanketed Okotoks today. I couldn’t garden 🙁 so played hooky 😉 & enjoyed part of the afternoon skiing about a 4km loop through fields, natural areas and along pathway ribbons reacquainting my week ankles to a not so graceful stride.
