-Elk Pass was already trackset on Nov 17 last year-

It might be too much to hope for, but I’d sure like to see a repeat of the fantastic ski season we had last winter. We won’t have to wait much longer to get started.

Moraine Lake road at Lake Louise was trackset for the first time on Nov 4 last winter.

The autumn colours, cooler weather and shorter days are harbingers of good times ahead.

First off, I’d like to thank everyone for their donations towards the upkeep of this website. Now with PayPal, I’ve made it easy to contribute.

In anticipation of the upcoming ski season, we’re already seeing a few comments on this blog from readers who are preparing for the winter ahead. Jenn’s request has reminded me to mention the Resources tab on the main menu where you can find a list of ski clubs and training groups, and other helpful info.

Skiing with a baby

Now I know why we didn’t get any trip reports from Cheryl B last winter. If anyone can offer some tips for skiing with a one-year-old, go to Ask A Question, Leave a Comment and leave some advice for Cheryl and her son Navin.

Frozen Thunder kicks off on Oct 20 for the keeners who will come to Canmore to get some early training in. We then wait for the first snowfalls at Lake Louise and Elk Pass. Moraine Lake road will be closed to vehicle traffic after Thanksgiving. The next time we go there, it will be on skis. Last year we were skiing on trackset trails on Nov 4.

Canmore Nordic Centre passes 10% off Purchase online

Starting today, season passes at the Canmore Nordic Centre are on sale for 10% off until Oct 31. I can’t remember a winter where we’ve experienced such wonderful conditions at CNC as we did last year.

Nipika Mountain Resort has announced the dates and itinerary for Ski Week. It will be held Jan 13 – 18, 2019. It gets booked up quickly, so click over and check it out now. Ski Week at Nipika.

I’ve set up a page for the first Trip Reports of the new season. With this snow that’s in the forecast I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a report or two.

This blog tallied over one million unique visits last winter. If you run a business which could benefit from exposure to thousands of xc skiers, check this page Advertising opportunities

Trails at West Bragg Creek have seen some improvements over the summer with new bridges in strategic locations which will mitigate a few of the scary sections. I posted an update about the new bridge on Sundog

On the sidebar, under Categories, you can find all sorts of good information, including helpful advice for new skiers. Beginner skiers are always searching for trails which are suitable for a novice skier. I’ve written 47 blog posts with information for beginners which you can find here Beginner Skiers.

Great news from Fischer skis. The “Win Fischer Skis” contest will be held in November, and this year the prize will be a Fischer Twin Skin Sport
