Thursday night update

Chuck’s 14 photos make me want to head for Castle Lookout. Castle Lookout to Baker Creek is a trail with fantastic rewards for very little effort. You don’t have to go far or do a lot of climbing to experience the best sightseeing the Bow Valley has to offer. There’s still some “Winter Wonderland” out there, too.

Cold weather on the way

There will still be some “warm” weather in the SkierBob universe this weekend based on the predictions from the Weather Network. By Monday, however, it’s pretty frigid everywhere except Golden, BC.

There is snow in the forecast for most locations on Sunday. The low on Monday night in some locations is a very cool -37°C.

Tracksetting Updates

In PLPP, the good news is that Tyrwhitt was trackset last night along with Hydroline and Lookout. Take note, Elk Pass is only trackset to the first Hydroline junction.

The Bill Milne, Wedge, and Evan-Thomas trails in Kananaskis were trackset today.  Coal Mine has been groomed for the first time this winter. The snowcat is now on Ribbon Creek. You can follow the progress of the snowcat on the Ribbon Creek Live Grooming report.

The Heritage Guides at Lake Louise leveled the Lake trail today and trackset the teaching grid. They were expecting to start on the Upper Telemark, Peyto, and Shoreline trails this afternoon.

Most of the trails at West Bragg Creek were trackset yesterday and tracksetting is ongoing today. Based on the photo from Hailey and Dean, WBC received some new snow.

Shaganappi Golf Course Jan 8 Update: “Skate ski superhighways were groomed and most trails were trackset this evening by a volunteer after the latest dusting of snow. Shaganappi Golf Course received approximately 5cm of new snow, and coverage is now significantly improved.”

I posted a Groomer’s Report from KHSC in Yoho. I wasn’t sure exactly which trails were trackset, but I would surmise it’s the Emerald Lake Alluvial Fan and Horse trail.

Due to an event this weekend at the Canmore Nordic Centre, the Stadium and Upper Competition Trails will be CLOSED on Saturday and Sunday.

I received this reply from my contact at the city regarding Cindy’s request for more regular Maple Ridge updates:

“Thanks and we appreciate you sharing this skier’s request – this info/request will be shared with Parks since they groom Maple and will be up to them to update info on the web if possible.”
