Boxing day update

Confederation golf course in Calgary

Maple Ridge golf course

Thanks to Judy for this update on Maple Ridge…

“They have done no grooming or tracksetting. We were out Christmas Day – have never seen so many cars! We had to park two blocks away. The inner trails were skier tracked and quite manageable, outer trails not so much, but the benefit was that we had that section to ourselves through the two loops we did. TONS of kids and families on the sledding hill.
Also, thanks to all the snowshoers (there were so many), who diligently stayed out of the skier set tracks!”

“This morning the driving range was groomed with a double trackset around the outside and 6 lane grid and skate lane up the middle. The blue trail was also groomed and trackset. Conditions are excellent.”

The only place you can find updates for Confed are on Facebook. The other websites which had updates haven’t been updated recently, so I’ve deleted them from the main menu. The Facebook link is now on the menu under Trail Reports > Confederation golf course.

West Bragg Creek

Hostel Loop at West Bragg Creek

The Rabbit has been hopping all night and as a result, the following trails are in great condition (albeit soft due to warm temps) and are groomed and track set: Hostel Loop and Meadow, East and West Crystal, Sundog, Iron Springs, Iron Creek, Elbow N, Loggers, Mountain View, Mountain Road, and Moose Connector. It was lightly snowing all night so expect to see some new over the fresh track setting. Second crew just left and will hopefully have Moose Loop and Mountain View West completed later this morning. Expect to see ice flows on Mountain View West. Have a great day skiing!!

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

PLPP Tracksetting on Dec 25/26 included Whiskey Jack, Packers, Upper Pocaterra and Lower Lake.

The trail report contains these remarks: “Light snow began falling just as the grooming was ending on Friday night- expect at least a skiff of new snow on all trails. During the snowfall from Sunday to Tuesday, in total, about 50 cm of snow fell in the north end of the park and about 60 cm in the south and at high elevations. Most of the trails have been groomed since or during the snowfall, with the exception of Tyrwhitt, Lookout, and two thirds of Hydroline- expect deep snow on these trails. Much of the snow is still suspended in the trees, so expect many large “tree bombs”, and other tree debris, with downed trees possible.”

MK added this info: “It is -12 degrees at the discovery centre in Peter Lougheed, Kananaskis. There was a dusting of snow. Both lanes on highway 40 have been ploughed however Northbound lane is still partially covered. Discovery Centre is open for information & washrooms.”

  1. Hi Bob, Thanks for the wonderful blog. I have been reading it since I followed you last year when I started to XC skiing. I also referred your blog to my friends. We all love it. Reading your blog is a must before we head to the mountains from Edmonton.

    Thanks again and Happy holiday!
