The following update is from Jeff Hughes:
“We’ve had 4 separate snowfalls in the last 7 days, so we’ve had our hands full with grooming and track setting. Approximately 15 cm of snow has accumulated over that time.
Conditions have not been this good in a long time. We have over 50 km of trails that are all groomed and track set with very few thin areas.
Caution is advised on an ice flows at the Moose Connector/West Crystal Line intersection and on a small section of Stairway to Heaven on West Crystal Line.
We will be hosting the Alberta Youth Championships this weekend with over 150 athletes from BC, NWT, AB and the Yukon. Racing will be confined to West and Middle Crystal Line and a portion of East Crystal Line and Bunny.
Grooming has been altered on some trails to accommodate the racing. We are expecting things to be busy this weekend and have arranged to have parking attendants to aid with congestion in the parking lot.
Racing will be taking place on a relatively small portion of our trail system so there should be little disruption to recreational ski activity.
Happy Trails,
jeff
Skied most of the trails except Mtnview and Moose loops on Tuesday PM at -9 C with great grooming and overall conditions. There were only a few thin spots
and skiing was thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to all those who have made this a great winter at Bragg Creek trails!!
Wednesday afterwork ski- Lower West Crystal-Mountain View-Mountain Road-Moose Loop-Upper West Crystal-Loggers-Sundog. Mostly very good conditions but Mountain View and Moose in particular have some bald spots developing at thin areas- for this reason I would advise skiing M.V. west to east, and Moose CCW so that the worst of the exposed areas are ascended. Overall though- fast fun skiing! The snow stayed cool, so VR 45 worked great.
Get it while you can!
Most excellent conditions this afternoon on well groomed and trackset trails. The skate appropriate trails are in great shape too. Only encountered a few small sections of ice under thin snow. With warm temps coming there may not be many chances left to enjoy. Think I will try Hostel and Moose loops tomorrow?
In a side note a lady lost her pet terrier “Charlie” out near top of Ranger or Strange Brew trails but was parked at wbc. She had been calling and looking for a few hours. Understandably upset when we spoke with her. Says Charlie has a colar too. If found or seen and or safe to do so find a way to get the dog to a local vet who was going to be contacted. Charlie had taken off after a noise or deer.
