Polar wax day

Chip Scialfa at Confederation golf course

Jan 14, 2020

Tomorrow’s high in Calgary is predicted to be -30°C, so Chip took advantage of the balmier -27°C temperature and skied today at Confederation golf course.

Here’s Chip’s report…

“On arrival at 2:15, the car’s thermometer read “Go Home”. I ignored it. After 75 minutes, I was ready to run for hot chocolate. Not too much glide, but the grip was fantastic! Closing temperature was -27 C. Where were all the keeners?”

A few forecasts are predicting temperatures in the mid-to-high minus teens in the mountains tomorrow(Wednesday).

For PLPP, Snow Forecast is predicting -18. Windy.com predicts -19, and Ventusky predicts -15. The Weather Network, which I’m skeptical about, beats all of them with -12.

Helen Read endured -29°C at the Canmore Nordic Centre before she went home and baked cookies.

One Comment:

  1. Good work on enduring outside. Even for a little bit, if properly attired and with tempered enthusiasm, the environment won’t kill you right away. Yesterday it was a (temperate) -25 but gloriously sunny to enjoy 90min around our trackset natural area at Laudan Park: https://www.okotoks.ca/sites/default/files/pdfs/parks-recreation/Laudan%20Park%20X-Country%20Ski%20Trails.pdf . Après-ski beve of choice was a hot spiced cider!
