Alf was out skiing today!
I’m pleased to post our first report of the season:
It’ was a snowy start to October last weekend, but that merely served as motivation for us skiers. Here are a few photos of skiing at Moose Mountain on October 6. We were able to start skiing right from the trailhead parking lot and skied all along the trail to the edge of treeline. A good chinook was blowing, so some of the snow melted during the day and there were a few thin spots on the way back. Still, we managed to ski for a total of 14km and even got a few telemark turns in!
Looks like more snow in the forecast for the next week.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with Moose Mountain, the trailhead is along Hwy #66 in the Elbow Valley southwest of Bragg Creek. If memory serves me from all those summer solstice hikes, you turn off the highway and go up a gravel road, gaining a lot of elevation before reaching the trailhead. I can see why it would be a good place to find snow. – Bob
