As you can see in the photo, we made the draw this afternoon after skiing on excellent conditions to the end of Moraine Lake road at Lake Louise.
Sorry for being so late with the announcement. In fact, I was feeling very guilty about being late as I was soaking in the hot springs. Then I was feeling concerned about the further delay while having dinner in Banff. 🙂
Thank you to everyone who entered the contest, and a special thanks to coach George Smith and the Calgary Nordic Training Group for providing the prize. Don’t forget, we still have 2 contests on the go. The draw next Monday will be for the “2 Free Nights at Buffalo Mountain Lodge.”
Back to the trail conditions, MLR is superb. The the snow temp was -10, air temp was -8, with occasional light snow falling. The trail had double tracks on the outbound lane and single track coming home. With a dusting of fresh snow in the tracks, it wasn’t super fast, but we still made the round trip in less than two hours. I also skied for about 200 metres up Fairview, and I can’t recommend it. It’s a narrow trail which doesn’t leave you much room to manouvre around the hazards. If you choose to ski on it, and survive, your skis might not.
It’s shoulder season in the mountains. The restaurants have great deals on now, and you can go in the Banff hot springs without being elbow to elbow with hordes of tourists.
Elk Pass has now fully been rolled, along with Hydroline and Patterson. No track yet of course, but now there’s a nice packed base for the upcoming snow. Watch for hazards.
Thanks to everyone who’s posted comments on the “Trip Reports” page. In the past week, 688 people have looked at that page.
