Let’s support ski trail grooming in Yoho and Emerald Lake

If you missed the news earlier this year, Parks Canada decided to end grooming of the xc trails in Yoho and Emerald Lake as a cost-saving measure. Thanks to some new developments, and some concerned people, there will indeed be grooming. This excerpt from an article in the Canmore Leader will bring you up to date:

Thanks to the Kicking Horse Ski Club in Field, BC, we will be able to enjoy skiing on the Kicking Horse River trail this winter

A popular cross-country ski area in Yoho National Park has been saved thanks to an agreement between Parks Canada and several organizations that benefit from it remaining open.

Approximately 15 kilometres of track set trails and a 5K loop on Emerald Lake will be available this winter after Parks Canada reached an agreement with Emerald Lake Lodge, Kicking Horse Ski Club and Emerald Lake Sports and Gifts to oversee the maintenance of the trails.”

  1. I’d rather make a donation to the club. Are they set up to receive donations?

Yes. Send it to the same address. They have a list for donors, too. http://www.khsc.ca/members-donations/ -Bob

    • Hi Bob; Thanks for your support and spreading the word about the Yoho trails. I will start work in L.Louise in early Nov.and get the trails ready there, and we will get some equipment and people organised for Yoho trails too. I hear it will be another good snow year, stay healthy!

Hi John; Good to hear from you! The Lake Louise trails were maintained to a high standard last year thanks to you and your crew. All the skiers I’ve spoken with were impressed at how quickly the trails were groomed after a snowfall. Can’t wait to see you on Moraine lake road in a few weeks! -Bob
