My skis will be up for sale this weekend
I can’t believe I still have the receipt for my Fischer SCS skis which were purchased in 2001(for $299.00). I’m kind of sentimental about these skis which I’ll be selling at the Canmore Nordic Ski Club’s sale this weekend. They were my first ever pair of racing skis and I had a lot of success on them back in the day.
I paid $299 in 2001 for my new skis
They have SNS bindings but I’ve now changed my boots over to NNN so I can’t use them. They are 210 cm, and if you weigh around 175-200 lbs, they will be fast skis for you. They were stone-ground a few years ago and I haven’t used them much since. I hope they get a good home. Seeing as my initials are painted on, maybe I’ll have occasion to meet the new owner on the ski trail some day.
Canmore Nordic Ski Club’s Ski Swap is this Sunday, Oct 30. Take note of the hours 10 a.m. -12 noon(if you’re willing to pay, you can get in at 9 a.m.). Consignment is on Saturday 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
In Calgary, it’s Lifesport’s Ski Swap all day Sunday. Consignments need to be in by Friday, Oct 28 at 8 pm.
My backpack has become faded over the years
Speaking of old equipment, I’m sure happy to have my backpack back. After 20 years of heavy use, the zipper on one side finally broke but it’s been repaired and I’m back in business. In the photo you can see that it’s faded to a pale blue but was once a vibrant purple. I bought it in 1996, the first year that I did any hiking in the mountains. My first ever hike was to Hamilton lake in Yoho. My first ever hike in K-Country was to the Kananaskis Fire Lookout. I reminisce every time I ski up there now.
Milla from Collingwood, ON on Frozen Thunder
Below are some photos from Frozen Thunder on Monday Oct 24. By noon, the snow had become sugary, and skaters were working hard. The classic tracks were still quite good except for one spot where I took a faceplant. It was the second fast downhill on Albertville as I reached the bottom. The tracks disappeared into ruts and deep slush and I was going way too fast. It’s good to get that over with early in the season, and a reminder to be more careful.
Brian Gregg from Minnesota
Brian and Caitlin Gregg from Minnesota are getting an early start on the season and it was nice to see them again. Caitlin has won the American Birkie four times and won a bronze medal at the world championships in 2015. They are independent of the American ski team, and are completely self-funded. I have much admiration for their dedication. Now if I could only get a sponsored vehicle like theirs.
Just a suggestion, but given your micro/cult celebrity SkierBob, you should hold on to those skies and auction them off for charity at a Nordic event fundraiser.
I smell a challenge. Going receipt diving.
How much are you selling the skis for Bob?
I don’t know yet. I was planning on arriving late and seeing what others were priced at, and tacking on 25% because my initials are on them 🙂
