We had a nice little run of cold snow, pleasant weather and good trail conditions. It’s over for now.
This warm weather(and rain in Canmore) is going to be brutal for the ski trails. The extent of the damage remains to be seen.
I imagine our first trip report of the day from GraemeP will be the precursor of many such reports: wet snow and needlemania. In the mornings, icy trails.
I’ve covered a lot of
ground snow so far this winter, but still have a few trails that I haven’t skied on yet this year such as Pipestone. I’m hoping that at least Lake Louise will survive. From the sounds of today’s Groomer’s report from the Chateau grooming team, things are okay.
Environment Canada is predicting 10 cm of snow in Yoho tonight and temperatures remaining below zero.
West Bragg Creek update from Groomer Jeff: “Warm temps and high winds have caused rapid deterioration of conditions on most of the trail system. Pine needles are accumulating in forested areas, and snow ranges from soft to ice crust depending on location and time of day. Numerous ice flows are plaguing the area…” Check the Groomer’s Reports for more details.
