Snow and cold for one more day

Update Sat Dec 30 @ 11:30 a.m: It’s clearing up. I can clearly see Grotto mountain across the valley and it looks like the sun is peeking out. The temperature is -25°C.

Saturday Dec 30 @ 9:15 a.m:

The following road conditions report was posted on Facebook at 8:30 a.m.

The snow which was in the forecast has materialized. I have received at least 6 cm in Canmore and the temperature is -26°C and it’s still snowing.

Web cams are showing plenty of snow-covered roads.

Grooming and tracksetting was completed in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park last night but it was snowing, so the new tracks will already have snow in them:

“Dec 30th Lots of new snow has helped bring Tyrwhitt into better condition and track setting was done on Tyrwhitt, Lookout, Hydroline, and Elk Pass (to hydroline junction). Expect to find new snowfall on top of the track set due to continuous snowfall throughout the night.”

The Canmore Nordic Centre’s Live Grooming Report indicates the entire Banff Loop on man-made snow is now trackset. This new snow will greatly improve conditions on the natural snow trails when they are groomed.

Today should be the last big blast of cold and snow for a while. The temperatures start to moderate tomorrow and it will be quite pleasant along with sunny skies for the first week of 2018.
