Spray River bridge open; Goat Creek packed

Update Dec 23: Goat Creek was trackset today. Spray River east side is also trackset. If skiing from Canmore to Banff, the east side may be a better choice for your final 5K.

Chuck has provided the following regarding the grand opening of the new Spray River bridge(lucky guy…saw a wolf today!)

Construction complete… an amazing accomplishment!

The crew were leaving…. so we had to do our own Ribbon Cutting!

Very thin conditions west of the bridge due to earlier ploughing for construction, but lots of snow east of the new Spray River Bridge. East of the bridge, the skidoo has only gone up and down the trail, but at least your poles get a solid plant.

A magnificent wolf stopped us in our tracks on this section. Then it was his tracks we had to follow for the last half Km, because nothing has been done to the trail east of the National Park Boundary. Kananaskis Park needs to remove their closed sign from the Goat Creek trailhead.

Nipika

Lyle Wilson from Nipika Mountain Resort has an update:

We have most of Nipika’s trails now open. We don’t have a on of snow but 3/4 of the trails are trackset for both skating & classic, the rest packed just for skating. More snow is in the forecast, so by boxing day we should be fully open.

All the best for the holidays

Lyle
