PLPP/Elk Lakes trip report

Hi Bob,

Back in November while planning a family trip into the Elk Lakes cabin for the end of April, I used your site to do some historical research
to see what the snow-pack was like over the past few years that late in the season.  And thanks to the archives of your blog, I was able to book the trip with some degree of confidence that we wouldn’t be knee-deep in mud.  Well, I’m happy to report that 7 of us, including a 3 and 4 year old just returned from the Elk Lakes ACC Cabin, and the conditions at PLPP are still excellent!  You won’t find much of a track, but the base is still substantial, completely free of bare patches, and there is minimal debris on the trail.  You will most certainly want waxless skis, but one could easily head out there for a great day of skiing in the spring sunshine.  The bears are definitely out though, so carrying bear spray and traveling in loud groups is strongly recommended.

Thanks again for skierbob.ca!

One Comment:

  1. What a great trip for everyone, especially the young ones. They’ll never forget this!
The snap of cooler weather was just what you needed, because looking at the snow cover down at the PLPP Visitors Centre webcam, you were just ahead of the melt.
