Due to the extremely cold weather, the Calgary Ski Club has announced the Lake Louise Loppet scheduled for tomorrow(Sunday Mar 2), has been cancelled. You may have seen this comment already, and you may want to consider following Andree’s example:
Hi Bob,
The organizers for the Lake Louise loppet cancelled the event this morning, given the prospect of -35 degree windchill for the start of the race tomorrow. The CSC website says 75% of the race fee will be reimbursed to those who registered in advance.
I just wrote Helen Isaac and asked her to tell Alasdair not to worry about refunding 75% of my $35 fee. Think of all the work and resources (food already purchased, etc.) that goes into a race of this magnitude. The club is almost certainly going to lose money with this cancellation.
“…wouldn’t it be generous of us racers if we advised CSC not to worry about refunding our registrations?”
Here is a suggestion: would you consider putting up a short message letting your readers know the race was cancelled, and wouldn’t it be generous of us racers if we advised CSC not to worry about refunding our registrations? I want to stress I am not telling YOU what to do; this is a suggestion only. I reckon merely by not going to the race I am saving about $25-35 on gas and of course I won’t be staying the night in Lake Louise.
Thanks, Andree

If it doesn’t create a financial hardship for you, this would be a generous gesture on the part of all who are registered for the Loppet.
I totally agree.
I think that was a good call. I skied today on the Moraine Lake Rd. all the way up, and it was very very cold…

I agree! It was -26 at lake louise hostel at 11 am this morning. Definitely an unpleasant day to be outside!
